2022 Men Of The Green Machine – Robby Hill

Please welcome Robby Hill to the 2022 Cavaliers! Robby is a 1st year Mellophone player.

Robby learned first about DCI and the Cavaliers from alumnus Roger Brooks who was a Cavalier in the drum section.  After attending college for his first semester, he met Ian Hoffman who mentioned that he thought Robby had what it took to become a Cavalier.  Robby then attended tryouts, and was offered a position with the Cavaliers.  Robby was very excited upon learning he had been accepted.

Robby has 4 years of experience with the Southern California Marching Band, the Golden Valley Grizzlies which has helped him in his first year with the Cavaliers.  With no experience with other corps, his experience with High School marching band has provided him with the basics needed to elevate his game to Cavalier Competition Level.

Robby is an avid bowler, and can often be seen spending his free time bowling 200+ games at the local bowling alley.  He took up bowling in January of 2022, and has since been working diligently to improve his game.  Robby also loves computer games, and can be found playing iRacing (A high fidelity race car simulator).  He also is quite an accomplished real life race car driver having driven both Spec Miata and Miata Cup cars.  Finally, he also participated in the virtual reality, online 24 hours of Neurbergring race on iRacing in 2020 with his father, and 3 other drivers.

Robby enjoys traveling, and driving to visit his friends hundreds of miles away in San Diego and Los Angeles.  He is quite the cat aficionado, and his cat Oreo misses him greatly.  You might see him on ‘Caturday’ wearing various homages to cats.  Robby also enjoys working on cars, changing the oil and maintaining his car, and also welds.  He’s also excellent at keeping his room clean.  (Or at least his parents hope that by writing that, it will become true).  Robby is also a master of voice impressions, and will be happy to remind you to ‘Don’t forget to bring a towel’ should you need a reminder.

Robby showed an interest in music and Trumpet, which his Grandfather, Robert George was a professional Trumpet player and music teacher.  Often found playing gigs with his impressive chops.  At the age of 9, he came to his parents with all of his past birthday money, and informed them that he wanted to purchase a trumpet with his money.  So off to the music store the family went, and with his birthday money and a little help with Dad’s credit card behind the scenes, he became the proud owner of his main axe to come for many years, a conn student trumpet.  He later graduated to a Yamaha Bobby Shew.  He also has a collection of antique trumpets, some of which his grand father played.  A few of which are even in quite nice playable condition.

Welcome again, Robby!
