Please welcome Zander Dickey to the 2022 Cavaliers! He will be performing with the Cavsliers Color Guard.
Zander first became interested in music when his oldest sister enrolled him in violin lessons at the local cultural center while he was visiting her in CA during the summer before 5th grade. He loved playing the violin and continued taking lessons upon returning to AZ. His elementary and middle school did not have an orchestra so we made the hour and a half drive once a week to Tucson. In 5th grade, he decided to join band and started out on the slide trombone, that lasted a year and then he switched to alto sax which he stills plays today. Zander attended Canyon del Oro High School in Tucson, making the hour ish drive everyday. He started off in marching band as an alto sax until during the winter season of Freshman year, he was introduced to winter guard. He started off on the JV squad that year and then chose guard over band for his Sophomore marching season.
. That winter he made the varsity team and then served as captain both his Junior and Senior years. He first learned about DCI sophomore year when his band director showed the band videos from the season. At the beginning of Senior year he wanted to audition for a DCI corps but ended up talking himself out of it until he was approached by his band director in March to audition for the Cavaliers. This will be his first season with DCI and he is ecstatic! Zander just graduated this week on the 17th. He was an active member of NHS, Interact, TriM Music Honor Society, Chemistry Club to name a few. He was named a CDO Scholar with Distinction having taken 12 or more AP/IB classes maintaining a GPA of 4.0 or higher. Zander will be attending ASU in the fall to pursue a degree in chemistry and will be a member of the Sun Devil color guard. In his spare time he enjoys going to concerts and just hanging with friends. Something interesting about him is up until he got really involved in high school activities he used to raise and show pigs and goats in 4H. He also loves to bake and every weekend would sell his baked goods at the local farmers market. He LOVES Harry Potter and Star Wars!
