It’s Time to Switch to a “Golf” Mentality

What a great day in Indy yesterday! Great sightseeing, food, weather, and loved being with the corps st Military Park for warmups  last night!

For my own sanity, I’m flipping my prism on DCI scoring to a “golf ” mentality. Golfers in competition can only control one thing…their own play. And that’s all our young men can control…their own performance.

All they can do is excel with each note played, with each step marched, with each rifle tossed, with each stick striking a drum or marimba…in short…its in their hands while on the field, and then it’s completely out of their hands.

But there’s one other characteristic of golf I’d like to throw in. Golfers don’t wish for their competition to hit a bad shot, or any other form of ill will. They simply play THEIR game the very best they can.

In that spirit, best of luck to the Blue Devils, SCV, Crown, Coats, Crusaders, Cadets and all the other fine corps here at finals!

Men… it has been an honor to watch you this season! Play your game…do your best. Leave no ounce of energy unspent angling for perfection. And then smile in the “clubhouse” because you will have already won. Regardless of placement…
