2022 Men Of The Green Machine – Matthew Warren

Please welcome back Matthew Warren to the 2022 Cavaliers!

Matthew is returning for his second year with the Cavaliers. He is one of the assistant drum majors. Last year, in what can only be described as a dream come true, he played euphonium with the Cavaliers. He is so excited to return and see what this season has in store for the guys.

Matthew began band in 6th grade, but did not march until 8th grade. His mother had marched in high school and told him stories of going to DCI shows when she was in school, but he really didn’t get the full picture of drum corps until 8th grade. His band director had begun a tradition of taking the band to the DCI show in Nashville, which was always the last Friday of band camp.  He came home that night and could not stop talking about drum corps, specifically the Cavaliers. From that point on, his dream was to march Cavaliers. However, he had a problem—he was a saxophone player. He decided his junior year that he would tryout for an open class corps and taught himself to play euphonium, believing that an open class corps would give him drum corps experience as well as time to improve his playing. So he marched with Southwind in 2019. He then contracted with Music City in 2020, but we all know what happened that year. So in 2021, he decided if he was ever going to be a Cavalier, it was now or never. He auditioned and had the time of his life last year.

Matthew is a music education major at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga where he’s part of the marching Mocs and jazz ensemble, among other ensembles.

Welcome back, Matthew!
